Summer and things are getting hot!

We have one small cabin open for 5 days starting Sunday the 24th and one small cabin open for 2 days starting the 27th and one 2 bedroom cabin open 2 days starting the 30th.  These cabins won't last long so give us a call quick!

Have a wonderful day!
Spring!!!!
Thursday, April 14th, 2016
At last Spring has arrived.  We are so happy to have our warm days and nights back.  We have had a lot of spoonbill fishermen/women the past few weeks.  Some of them have done well and others not as good as they hoped.  The biggest problem is the low water on the Osage river.

We now have crappie and spoonbill groups here.  We have seen some crappie remains in the buckets so they are being caught.

Looking forward to seeing all our extended family.  Have a great year everyone!
Spring has arrived; be sure to spring forward tonight!
Saturday, March 12th, 2016
My apologies for not posting reports during the past two months.  We were busy doing the shows and discussing spring!

Our cabins are open and ready for your arrival.  We have purchased some more new sleeper sofas and are putting in new windows in our Liar's Den!

Each winter we work hard to make improvements for the upcoming busy season.  We are looking forward to another great year!    Please remember to check our Face Book page (ReelAndTriggerResort) for the latest pictures and posts.

We have some Easter Weekend openings still available so give us a call ASAP.  Come enjoy beautiful Truman Lake!

Christmas is Coming!
Monday, December 7th, 2015
Hello Everyone! What a wonderfully mild December we are having. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is getting ready for an outstanding Christmas.

Just wanted to give you a brief update on what we are doing this winter. We bought new sleeper sofas for cabins 4, 5, 7, and 10! We also put new beds in cabins 1, 4 and 5. I would take pictures to send you but these cabins are closed for the winter. We hope you all enjoy the furniture and beds next year.

We do keep a couple of cabins open year round so if you want to come on down and enjoy the 60 degree days give us a call. I'll let you know how the fishing is as soon as our guests come back in today.

We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  The 2016 season will be here before we know it and we can't wait to see all of our friends and family again.

We will be at the following shows in 2016

Labor Day Weekend!
Friday, September 4th, 2015
So much has happened this year!  My apologies for not keeping this updated.    In July we had a brush with mother nature (a tornado touched down too close for comfort) and although we had some damage; we are so fortunate it was limited to damaged roofs and lost TV's.  We are still working with insurance company and contractors to get everything settled.

The weather has been unusual all summer long.  Our average August temp was 82 degrees!  Fishing was on again off again.

Now its labor day and the year is winding down.  Kids are back to school and fall is approaching.    The good news is the fish are biting.

We still have availability during September, October and November so give us a call and come down and enjoy beautiful Truman Lake.  Don't forget Heritage Days in October.  We only have two cabins left so make your reservation fast!

See you soon.
Memorial Day Weekend!
Thursday, May 21st, 2015
To our military (active and retired) thank you so much for your service and the sacrifices you have made to keep our country free. To the families of those who paid the ultimate price, words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation. May God bless you all!

We have filled our open cabins for Memorial Day Weekend. Looking forward to seeing all our extended family! I just have one small complaint...Are you kidding me ... 48 degrees last night! They are saying it will be 45 tonight! What happened to summer.

On the bright side, one of our employees said he caught 31 fish last night. He caught crappie, catfish, bass and hybrids. Had a great time. So the fish are still biting!

Have a safe trip where ever you may be going and don't forget to give thanks to our military men and women!
Fish On!
Tuesday, May 5th, 2015
We have seen some really nice crappie this past week; not to mention some good catfish.

Jim caught a 2.9 lb 17" crappie last Friday and Keith caught a 16" crappie Monday!  Most of the reports we are getting tell us they are catching 10, 11, 12" crappie with some 13-15" in the mix.

Larry had a 37.5 lb flathead catfish last week.  We seen some nice hybrid bass as well.

Check out our Facebook page to see the latest pictures.  We have one cabin left for the upcoming weekend so give us a call fast!
Fishing & Hunting
Monday, April 27th, 2015
We had a group of guys who when turkey hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting.  They bagged a turkey, caught a lot of crappie, and found a few mushrooms.  They had a good trip.

Despite the colder weather folks are still catching fish.  A littler slower the past two days; but they are still getting them.

We have also be told they are finding lots and lots of mushrooms.  Watch out for the ticks according to one of our guests.

We are looking forward to a few days without rain.  Need a little sunshine to warm things up.

We have one studio cabin open for a few days during this week.  So give us a call and come on down to Truman Lake to enjoy a few days away from work.

Fish On!
Tuesday, April 21st, 2015
We are seeing lots of nice 11" crappie and larger!    Don't miss out.  Even though we have had some rain each day, everyone has been able to get out and fish long enough to catch some nice fish.

We just had a cancellation for the weekend of May 8 & 9.  Also had a cancellation for a two bedroom cabin for  April 25 - May 1.

Give us a call and join in the fun!
Crappie are moving!
Thursday, April 16th, 2015
We are starting to see more crappie caught.  One cabin got their limit yesterday.    The recent rains have raised the lake level a little so we are hoping the water will be released to help our spoonbill fishermen.

We have two studio cabins open for April 26-30 and April 26 - May 1.  This should be prime crappie fishing!  These cabins won't last long so give us a call ASAP.  As of now all our weekends are full for the next 3 weeks unless we have a last minute cancellation.    Hope to see you all soon!

Happy Easter Everyone!
Sunday, April 5th, 2015
It was great to see so many of our extended family this weekend.  Our house was full of smiles and laughter!  We were so blessed to add new friends to our extended family!

Fishing was tough; but everyone said they had a great time at Reel & Trigger.

The guys in Cabin 5 got an 80 lb spoonbill and a couple of 40 lb and one 35 lb. They were happy!

We had several people snagging.  Everyone got at least one spoonbill.  The cold weather made it rough fishing.

We have one cabin left for next weekend.  Give us a call; it won't last long!
We have Openings!
Friday, March 27th, 2015
Just had a couple of cancellations during the April 19 - May 10 time frame for single room cabins.  If you want to come during prime crappie fishing give us a call quick.  These cabins won't last long.

See you soon.
Spring has arrived!
Thursday, March 26th, 2015
Hello Everyone!  Hope your are having a great year.  Easter is just around the corner.  We just had a cancellation for Cabins 8 & 9 so if you are looking for an Easter getaway, give us a call.

Have a very Happy Easter!
Spring is Coming!
Saturday, March 14th, 2015
We are so excited!  The weather has warmed up and the evenings are mild.  Been getting some good fishing reports from guests and friends.

Spoonbill season starts March 15.  This year the DNR has tagged some spoonbill to help them track the movements, etc.  So if you snag one with a tag be sure to write down the info and give them a call.  If it is too small to keep get it back in the water as fast as possible.

Just a reminder, spoonbill eggs cannot be transported once they are out of the fish.  You must removed the eggs as soon as you are off the water.  We cannot transport these eggs.  We can no longer dump spoonbill heads and tails at our disposal location.  Therefore you will need to head and tail your fish and remove the eggs prior to returning to our fish cleaning station.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Looking forward to a great year and a wonderful season!

Spring is Coming!
Thursday, February 12th, 2015
We are so ready for spring  It is coming but not fast enough for all of us.  Russ & I have completed our shows and are glad to be home.  We met a lot of nice people and got to visit with our extended family.  It is always great to see everyone at the shows.

We are looking forward to warmer weather and I am looking forward to a more relaxing year!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.  See you soon!

Improved Fishing?
Friday, September 19th, 2014
The weather has improved and the fishing is a little better.

We have a few cabins available in September.  So if you are thinking about a weekend getaway give us a call.

We just had a cancellation for the first weekend in October.  If you need a place to stay give us a call.  It is a large 2 bedroom cabin.  The Eagle's Nest has 6 beds.

We also had a cancellation for Heritage Days.  We have one 2-bedroom available and one studio cabin available.    Third weekend in October is going to be a blast!

See you soon!

September!
Sunday, September 7th, 2014
It's hard to believe September has arrived.  The cool weather is here and I'm looking forward to a beautiful fall.  The fishing this year has been tough.

However we have had a few who did well.  They pulled in some nice crappie.  Didn't limit out but said the size made up for the lack of quantity.

We do have a few cabins left for the next 3 weekends.  However our first two weekends in October are book full and we only have 2 cabins left for the 3rd weekend (Heritage Days).

Give us a call and come enjoy the beauty of Truman Lake.

See you soon!

Russell, Carole & Bill
Summer is Winding Down!
Friday, August 15th, 2014
It is hard to believe we are half way thru August!  School is starting and September is just around the corner!

The fishing has improved the past few days.  This has been a rough year on Truman.  The crazy weather and lack of rain hasn't helped any.

We have rain in the forecast the next few days.  Hope it rains at night so everyone can take advantage of fishing during the day.

I will try to post a little more often.  I have started my outpatient therapy so hopefully it will get easier to type.  Look forward to seeing you all soon!

Russell, Carole, & Bill
What a July!
Sunday, July 20th, 2014
Sorry for the delay in posts.  As many of you know I broke my shoulder June 12.  I will be in rehab for 5-6 months and it is very difficult for me to type.

We have been enjoying SPRING in July the past week.  The weather has been awesome and folks are enjoying fishing on the lake.  I know the guys are dumping fish remains and I've been told the folks have been catching nice crappie.

We do have a couple of openings next weekend so come on down and enjoy beautiful Truman Lake!

Awesome Weather!
Monday, May 12th, 2014
We have had a great week with good weather.  Been dumping lots of fish remains lately.  The fishing has been good, okay, great, and back to good.  It is hard to predict; guess that's why they call it fishing not catching!

Had a great Mother's Day and hope all our moms had a wonderful day.

Our next two weekends are full but we do have some availability during the week and the last weekend in May.

See you soon,  Russell, Carole & Bill
May is just around the corner!
Sunday, April 27th, 2014
We had a day where everyone got their limits!  All the crappie were really nice ones; then the storm came through and the crappie moved back out.  Hopefully they will regroup and move back in soon.

Had a couple of guys fishing for catfish.  They did well.

Looking forward to a great week of fishing and visiting with our extended family.

Russell, Carole & Bill
Easter is almost here!
Thursday, April 17th, 2014
It is hard to believe this Sunday will be Easter Sunday!  I pray everyone will have a blessed Easter.

It looks like the fishing is slowly picking up.  The crappie are biting on the west end of Truman so hopefully they will start biting on our end of the lake soon.  A few are being caught.

We have one cabin left for this weekend so if you haven't made plans yet it's not too late.

Have a wonderful weekend.
April!
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014
It is hard to believe it is April.  This has been a very cold winter for everyone.  The water temp has is a reflection of the cold winter.

We have had a cool start to the spoonbill season.  The water is cold and the dam is closed so everyone has had to go down stream to find any spoonbill.  It has been hard for everyone to find them.  We have seen three nice spoonbill so far this year.

Looking forward to the warmer days of spring.  We hope everyone has had an good year so far.    We have a few openings in April so give us a call and come enjoy a few days away.    We have a cabin waiting just for you!

Russell, Carole & Bill
March is almost here!
Sunday, February 23rd, 2014
Hello everyone,  We have completed our fishing and hunting shows!  At the Let's Go Fishing show we were hit by ION Sunday morning.  The show opened at 10 and closed at 10:01!  We tried to get them to announce Saturday night the show would be closed Sunday!  All the vendors were stuck in a hotel while the storm raged outside.  Nothing was open!  We had snow at the other three shows but nothing compared to our ION experience ...

We saw lots of you at the shows and made some new friends.  We always enjoy having you drop by to say hello.

We are starting to gear up for the new season!  Last week we had temps between 60 & 65; the upcoming week not so great but spring is just around the corner.

We look forward to seeing everyone again.  I know we will have an outstanding 2014!

Russell, Carole, and Bill
2014 is only 2 days away!
Sunday, December 29th, 2013
We would like to thank everyone for staying with us this year.  We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year. You are our extended family and we pray God will bless each of you for years to come.

We enjoyed taking a break from remodeling this year.  We were able to make a trip to Oklahoma to see my grandson & family for Christmas.  We left a day early due to the projected ice storm.  We were glad we did!  Come May 2014 we will be adding another member to our family.  He will be my 3rd great grandson!

Our Boat Show Schedule for 2014 is as follows:

January  3 - 5  Let's Go Fishing Show
                  Collinsville, IL

January 16 - 18  River City Hunting,
                  Fishing, Boat Show

The leaves are falling and the deer are hiding!
Friday, November 8th, 2013
We had beautiful fall colors around the lake the past two weeks.  There are still colorful hillsides but the leaves have started falling.  We always enjoy the beautiful fall foliage until it starts hitting the ground!  When you leave near a wooded area you fell like you have more leaves than grains of sand on the ocean shore line...

We are starting to close down a few cabins at a time for the winter season.  But we still have cabins available for our hearty fishermen and the hunters.

This year there is a special deer hunt in Truman State Park so if you were one of the lucky ones, give us a call and we will keep a cabin open for you!  We are only 1/2 mile from the entrance.

Don't forget we always have a cabin or two open in the winter!  See everyone soon!

State Park & Heritage Days
Thursday, October 3rd, 2013
Yes, the Truman State Park is open.  You can launch your boats and rent slips at the Marina.    Yes Heritage Days in Drake Harbor is still happening.  Drake Harbor is owned by the City of Warsaw.

We did have a cancellation for a small cabin for Heritage Days due to a wedding.  So if you need a small cabin give us a call quick...it won't last.

A Great Fishing Story!
Tuesday, October 1st, 2013
One of our guests was having so much fun this weekend she decided to take a little dip in the lake!  She was trying to secure a pole, or so the story goes, and slipped into the water!  The good news is no one was hurt and everyone had a great laugh, including the one who took the dive. lol

It was a great weekend to fish and the fishing is slowing improving.  We have a few cabins left for this weekend.  However we are full October 11 & 12 and the only cabin left for Heritage Days (Oct 18 & 19) is our Liars Den.    Hope to see you soon!

Russell, Carole & Bill
Fall has arrived!
Sunday, September 22nd, 2013
What a beautiful weekend!  The weather was absolutely perfect!  Everyone had a wonderful time.  It was 48 degrees when we woke up this mornings; great time of year to open the windows and enjoy the fresh air!

The temperature drop slowed down the fishing a bit but everyone I talked to said they were able to get some nice fish and enjoy a fish fry!

We have some cabins available next weekend so give us a call and enjoy the beautiful fall weather on Truman Lake.

Heritage Days is just around the corner.  We have one studio cabin and one large cabin available.  Don't wait too long or you will miss out!

See you soon!

Russell, Carole & Bill
Beautiful Weather!
Sunday, September 15th, 2013
The weather has cooled down and the fishermen are enjoying getting out on the lake!  We are hearing good reports on catfish; crappie seem to be hitting a little better.  Even if they don't get their limits the crappie size has made up for fewer fish in the basket.

Looking forward to the fall season.  If you haven't made any plans give us a call.

Russell, Carole, and Bill
The Phone is Back!
Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013
Yeah our phone is working again.  They even got it repaired on Labor Day!!!

The weather is beautiful this week and the upcoming weekend is also suppose to be outstanding.

We have a few open cabins so give us a call and come enjoy beautiful Truman Lake.

Russell, Carole, & Bill
Labor Day Weekend & Phone Woes!
Sunday, September 1st, 2013
Labor Day weekend started off hot and humid!  Everyone has been having a great time and catching nice fish!  Today it has cooled off and we have a thunderstorm that was not expected.  During this storm I was talking to a friend who wanted to make reservations for next year.  In the middle of our conversation there was a crackly sound and the phone went dead!!!!  So I called the phone company.  They confirmed it was dead and said they would have it fixed by Tuesday night!

So my apologies to all.  If our phone number is busy please send us an email or contact us via Facebook.  Hopefully they will get it fixed before Tuesday night!

Oh Yes, they did offer to call a supervisor to see if it could be expedited but we would have extra charges for this ranging from $100-500!  Whatever happened to good old fashion customer service!  If we treated our guests like this we would be out of business!  Venting over...thanks for listening.

Have a great weekend!
Beutiful August
Tuesday, August 20th, 2013
We are having absolutely gorgeous August weather. The kids are back in school. The fishing has improved a little and everyone is having a great time.  We only have three small cabins left for the upcoming weekend so if you are considering coming down you need to get your reservation in fast.

Have a great month!
August brings rain!
Thursday, August 8th, 2013
I think our April showers have moved to August downpours!  Fortunately for us at Truman Lake we have received some much needed rain; unfortunately for those south of us they have received record breaking downpours that have caused death and destruction.  Our hearts and prayers reach out to all those who have been affected.

Fishing has been a little slow; but you can catch good catfish and nice crappie.  Oh I mustn't forget the walleye!  We have had some get their limit in walleye recently!

The forecast for the weekend includes a chance of rain each day (sounds like the last 7 days and the next 7 days...lol).

Looking forward to a great weekend and seeing all our friends.

Russell, Carole & Bill
Wow! Are you sure it's July?
Monday, July 29th, 2013
The temperatures have taken a big nose dive!  We woke up to 55 yesterday and today it's 61!  The high was in the 70's!  Our State Fair is going on this week and the weather is absolutely great!  They have been catching catfish, crappie and walleye!  If you haven't made plans for next weekend give us a call; we have a few cabins left for August 2-3.  Sorry our weekend of August 9-10 is full.

Have a great week and enjoy this beautiful weather!
Is this really July???
Sunday, July 14th, 2013
The weather this weekend has be awesome!  It actually got down in the 60's last night!  Our guests have been having a great weekend of fun on the lake without having to worry about the sun baking their skin.

We have a few cabins open for the up coming weekend so give us a call.  Spending a weekend on Truman Lake is a lot of fun!
Summer Fun
Tuesday, July 9th, 2013
The 4th of July this year was awesome!  The weather was great and the fireworks were outstanding.  Everyone had a lot of fun over the 4 day holiday and look forward to coming back next year.

The weather has warmed up this week.  However we should be getting some rain tomorrow.

Fishing is on again off again.  Night fishing for crappie has been good.  During the day you need to find 20-30 feet of water with timber to catch the crappie.

Lake level is getting back to normal pool.  We still have a few cabins available for this coming weekend so give us a call and come on down.  Enjoy a weekend at Truman Lake.
Wow Time Flies!
Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
My apologies to all!  We've been so busy we haven't had time to post any updates.

It's hard to believe the 4th of July is almost here.  We are looking forward to celebrating our countries independence!

We still have a few openings starting July 7 for the month of July and we have some August openings as well.

We have a few labor day weekend openings; they won't last long so call quick.

Hope you have had a good year so far.  See you all soon!

Spring ??
Wednesday, March 27th, 2013
Spring is just around the corner or so they say.  Since we had snow the first day of spring I think the weatherman is playing jokes on us...

We did have a great group of friends from Nebraska come down last weekend.  They went spoonbill fishing and were able to snag 10 during their stay.  The largest one was 77 pounds!  They also had some 60+ pound spoonbill.  The guys went fishing and the ladies worked on scrap-booking projects.  As they were checking out during the snow storm on Sunday I was told it was definitely worth the trip!

We are looking forward to Easter and warmer weather.  Now that the snow is melted we should be able to quickly wrap up the last of our remodeling projects.  Four snow storms in a row put a "little" kink in our plans.

April is just around the corner.  See you soon!

Russell, Carole & Bill
Snow and more snow!!!
Wednesday, February 27th, 2013
I think someone needs to have a talk with the groundhog!  We have had two big snow storms since he predicted an early Spring!!  On the bright side we are adding much needed moisture to the ground...yea!

The Quad City IL show was great.  It was good to see so many of you at the show.  We also want to thank everyone who stopped by our booth.  Look forward to having you come stay with us.

We had set ourselves a deadline of March 1 to get all of our remodeling projects done. Well, the weather has put us behind schedule.  However as soon as the current weather clears up Russ and crew will be back at it.  I am confident they will have everything done and ready to go by March 15 or sooner.

We hope everyone will be pleased with our continuing progress. Cabins 1,3,4,5,7, and 10 are showing off the new windows, siding, and paint plus three of them have had interior work done as well.  Cabin 6 got a new roof and paint job last year!

If a cabin could talk I think 2, 8 & 9 would be asking when is my turn (ha ha).

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in the Spring.  We have openings in March and a few April and May openings (not many).  You need to get your spring reservations made fast before they are all gone.

See you soon

Russell, Carole, and Bill
February Already!
Saturday, February 2nd, 2013
Wow it's hard to believe that it is already February.  We have had such a busy winter that time has flown by.

Our January shows were a big success.  We saw many of you at the shows and met some new friends as well.

Between shows Russ & company have continued to work on the cabin renovations.  We had some down time due to weather and visiting the family at Christmas but all is going well.  Russ has a goal of March 1 to have everything completed.  I am confident that he will meet his goal.

Our last show is at Quad Cities (Illinois).  We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the show and meeting new friends.

We are looking forward to Spring and a wonderful 2013!

Russell, Carole & Bill

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all of our friends and extended family!
It is hard to believe it is December 3 ...especially since it is 60+ degrees outside!

Bill & Russ are hard at work on the renovation of Cabins 3, 4 & 5.  The duplex is getting a completed re-do while cabin 3 is getting new windows, siding and paint!  They are going to be awesome!

Beautiful Fall Weather
Wednesday, October 24th, 2012
It is a beautiful day; 81 degrees and a south breeze.  Russ & Bill are putting new leaf guards on the guttering today and then they are starting the "never ending" process of mulching all these leaves!

The weather man says it's going to get down right chilly this weekend and then it's going to warm up a little.  We will see how accurate he is.

Fish are still biting and the deer are moving around. Of course when the hunters arrive the deer will head for cover!

We start our remodeling projects Monday.  Cabins 3, 4 & 5 will never be the same.... Nope they will be greatly improved!

Russell, Carole & Bill

PS:  Bill turned 71 today!
It's Fishing Weather!
Friday, October 12th, 2012
The weather man said we could have rain, rain, rain this weekend.  "Could have" is the key.  So far Warsaw has not had a drop and the map shows all the rain south of us!  We have a "slight" chance tonight and a "slight" chance tomorrow for rain.  The fish don't care if it rains, remember they LIVE in water!

Come on down for a great day of fishing and a good day of catching!
October is just one day away!
Saturday, September 29th, 2012
Wow it is hard to believe that October 1 is upon us.  We want to thank all of you for the wonderful year we have been having.

We still have some openings for October weekends (except for Heritage Days).  The crappie are in their fall pattern.  However, the good news is we have seen some 12 & 13 inch crappie!

The catfish are being caught on jug lines.  The bass are slow; but you can catch them in the timber and off the flats.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

August Fishing - Military Appreciation Month
Friday, August 3rd, 2012
We are still hearing good reports on the crappie.  Minnows seem to be the best for catching crappies.  You do have to hunt for them but that is part of the fun of fishing...

Labor Day will be here before we know it.  We only have two cabins left for Labor Day weekend.  One single room cabin and one two bedroom cabin.  Don't wait too long or you will miss out on a great weekend at the lake.

School will be starting soon so please watch out for the kids!  The little ones will be to excited to pay much attention and the older ones will be talking to friends they haven't seen for a while so please watch out for the kids.

September and October are filling up so make your fall reservations soon.  We still have some August availability.  Don't forget August is our Military Appreciation Month!

See you soon.

July Heat!
Thursday, July 26th, 2012
This has been a month of record setting heat and little to no rain!  The lake is still in good shape.  Just slightly below normal pool.  Crappie fishing has been good at night and early morning.  Hybrid fishing has also been good.

We are hoping that August will bring some relief.... We did get some rain last night!!

Our family has some great news....We welcomed another family member on July 20!  His name is Owen Charles and he weighed in at 7 lbs 15 oz and 21 inches long.

Stay cool and enjoy the dog days of summer!

Fishing is Good!
Saturday, June 16th, 2012
We are please to report we are receiving good reports on the fishing.  We have a group of 10 guys that went crappie fishing yesterday and came in with 150 crappie!  Yep they got their limit!  They had a great time and caught good size crappie.

Other guests have also been getting nice catfish and bass.

The weather has been good.  We have a couple cabins still open for next weekend.  Give us a call and have a great time fishing on Truman Lake.

Latest News!
Sunday, May 13th, 2012
First, we just had a cancellation for Memorial Day Weekend.  It is Cabin 3, a small cabin with a king bed.  It won't last long so give us a call quick!

Second, we had several large groups this weekend that were after crappie and catfish.  Those that went after catfish caught a bunch and 4 of them were between 30-35 pounds.

The crappie fishermen did well also.  As a matter of fact two of the guys that checked out this morning are cleaning their limit of crappie at our fish cleaning station as I write this note.

Last but definitely not least we want to wish all the mothers a very Happy Mother's Day.  God bless you for all your sacrifices!

Sunday, April 29th, 2012
We had heavy rain this morning and now the sun is smiling down and warming things up.  Everyone is going out to enjoy the beautiful afternoon.

We dumped 4 buckets of fish remains last night so the fishing is definitely improving...there was at least one 15 inch crappie in the buckets.

We just had a last minute cancellation for May 4 & 5 due to knee surgery.  So if you are looking for a single room cabin with 2 beds give us a call.

Have a great day!

Mushrooms, Crappie, and Spoonbill
Sunday, March 25th, 2012
The mushrooms are up, the crappie are biting and the corps is running water so the spoonbill fishing is good.

We picked a dozen morel mushrooms around the tree in our yard this morning!  Didn't even have to go looking in the woods.

Folks are catching crappie on jigs; we had two spoonbill fishermen this weekend that snagged a total of 5 spoonbill.  Three of them were in the sixty pound range!

Grab your poles and come on down!

Spring or Summer?
Thursday, March 15th, 2012
I'm beginning to wonder if we are going to skip spring!  It was almost 80 yesterday!  Everyone is getting the "fishing" bug.  We are seeing more and more boats on the lake every day.

We have filled some of our April dates.  The "Fish for Sight" weekend is gone as well as the April 15-17 dates.  We still have some early April dates including Easter weekend.

Look forward to seeing all our friends and family.

Russell, Carole & Bill

Early Spring & Fish On!
Monday, March 12th, 2012
We had a very mild winter and spring arrived early!  We have had some really beautiful days in February and March.  Today it's 74 outside.

The fish are biting and the crappie are showing signs of an early spawn.  All our friends are catching nice crappie and telling us their guess for the spawn.  We hope to be able to sneak in some fishing this week.

We have been busy opening up the cabins and getting ready for this season to take off!  We have already had people dropping in and look forward to those who are coming in tomorrow.

We are filling up fast and don't have many April dates available.  We did have a cancellation for April 25-28 for a small cabin that will accommodate 2 guys and a cancellation for April 23-27 for a small cabin.  We also have April 28-May 2 available.

These dates and cabins won't last long so be sure to call fast.

We have made several renovations this winter and have added a spoonbill post next to our fish cleaning station for those who need to hang one up for cleaning.

See you all soon!

PS:  We have put new windows and siding on Cabins 1, 7, 10, painted Cabins 6, 11 & 12, re-stained the Liars Den and put new paneling in Cabin 7. We are planning to reside the fish cleaning station and have it painted by year end if they weather cooperates! It has been a busy winter.
Deer season has arrived with a bang!
Sunday, November 13th, 2011
Boy has it been windy lately.  If the wind keeps blowing maybe we won't have to rake leaves.  (Okay one can dream.)

One of our deer hunters bagged a 10 point buck yesterday.  It is a really nice deer.  I will be taking pictures of it later today.  We have several other deer hunters here so I am sure we will hear about more good hunts.

We have a couple of brave fishermen going out on the lake catching crappie and whites.

Now for the big news.  We have started makeovers on cabins 1, 7, and 10.  These cabins are all getting new siding, windows, and doors....not to mention a new paint job.  I will be taking pictures when they are done.  This is just the start of our renovations.  Next year we are planning on giving more cabins new windows & siding until all of our cabins have been updated.

As the cabins are renovated the large picture windows are being replaced with two double windows.  These windows are more energy efficient and still give you a great view of the lake.

We want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

They are Falling....They are Falling! Leaves that is!!
Friday, October 28th, 2011
It is that time of year; the leaves have turned and now they are falling to the ground.  We have made our first effort to scoop them up but we know more will be coming down to replace them.

The last weekend of October has arrived.  We are full house!  A big thank to you all our customers who are coming down this weekend.  The lake is still low so fishing is still a little tough.  But a day on the lake is a great day and we won't have many more beautiful days before old man winter arrives.

We are getting ready to put new windows, doors and siding on Cabins 1, 7, and 10.  Our contractor will be here on Halloween to get started on Cabin 1.  We are really excited about this project and can't wait until it is completed!  So to our November guests, please excuse the mess around these cabins we are making improvements for your comfort.

We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend and in November.  We still have openings in November so come on down and enjoy fall in the Ozarks.

Russell, Carole & Bill
Fall is Beautiful
Wednesday, October 12th, 2011
The trees are rapidly changing colors.  The Ozarks are beautiful this time of year.  Of course, this also means we will soon be raking leaves (ugh!) and scooping up thousands of acorns.

We have filled our last cabin for this weekend.  Hope everyone enjoys the beautiful weather predicted for the weekend.

Crappie fishing is slowing improving.  The whites, hybrids, and bass fishing is also improving.

We have put a new coat of paint on Cabin 6 and the Liars Den has been power washed and has a new coat of sealant.  They both look great.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Russell, Carole & Bill
October Already!
Monday, October 3rd, 2011
It is hard to believe that September has come and gone.  We had a wonderful September thanks to our great customers.

The days are cool and the nights are even cooler so it must be fall!  We have noticed some of the trees have a few leaves of color so it won't be long before the beautiful colors of fall cover the Ozarks.

The shad are pool up in the coves and around the dam.  The white bass are starting to feed which means catching got a little easier for the whites.

Crappie fishing has been a little tough lately but we heard the lake has recently turned over so the crappie fishing should improve soon.

We have one cabin left for Heritage Days due to a recent cancellation.  If you need a small single room cabin let us know quick ... it won't last long.

We are looking forward to the beauty of fall and seeing all of you.  October weekends are filling up fast .. At this posting we have a few cabins available for October 21-22, one cabin for Oct 6-9 and one cabin for Oct 14-15 so make your reservations quick!

Labor Day is Upon Us!
Sunday, August 28th, 2011
Next weekend we celebrate Labor Day.  Hopefully we will have great weather for our holiday weekend.

The fishing has been good, and everyone that was here this weekend had a great time.  Greg told me they caught a few black bass in the shad pools when they were fishing for hybrids!

September and October are fast filling up (especially the weekends) so make your reservations and come on down for some great fall fishing on Truman Lake!

Don't forget Heritage Days in October, we still have two cabins left for the festival but they won't last long!

We look forward to seeing all of you soon! God Bless

New Pictures
Sunday, July 10th, 2011
We have posted new pictures on our website that were sent to us by our guests.  We hope you enjoy them.

The weather is a little warm (hot) but the fishing has still been good.  The folks that are here now have been catching crappie and catfish.  Haven't had anyone fishing for bass lately.  But we have heard folks have been catching them on the lake.

We still have openings for the last weekend in July and the month of August.  Be sure to give us a call before you drop in to make sure we have availability.

Have a great summer,

Russell, Carole and Bill
Wow what an Independence Day Celebration!
Tuesday, July 5th, 2011
July is know to be a hot month and the 4th of July weekend was no exception!  It was a HOT one.  However that didn't stop the fun.  We had 50 members of one family getting together and having a great time!  They come together every year at Reel & Trigger to celebrate their family and remember those who have passed on.  They are a wonderful group of people and we are proud to call them our friends.  We look forward to next years celebration.

We had two other families that have been staying with us for the holiday for several years that commented on the hot weather, good fishing, and nice fireworks display.

We feel like all of these families are a part of our extended family.  We appreciate their loyalty and look forward to seeing each of them again next year.

The fishing has been good, although the weather is hot.  It is suppose to cool down a little the next few days.  So if you don't have a reservation for this weekend give us a call.  We have a few cabins remaining.

Have a great July!  See you soon.

Russell, Carole and Bill

June News
Sunday, June 12th, 2011
Wow, June has been great.  We have had several folks just slaying the crappie and hybrids.  The shad are schooled up and the fishing is good.

Shawn said he caught and released about 60 crappie at the dam on Saturday.  He told me that 15 of them were 12-14" long and the majority of what he caught were 10".

They were running water during the week and we saw several 8-10 pound hybrids and a 5 lb walleye brought in.

The catfish have been spawning and the catching has been good.

We just had a cancellation for next weekend.  So we have one two bedroom cabin available at this posting.  Give us a call and come on down for the great fishing and awesome weather.

Russell, Carole & Bill
May is quickly flying by!
Sunday, May 22nd, 2011
Despite the rain and thunderstorms our guests have had a great weekend.  We saw three big hybrid bass weighing 9, 10, and 11 pounds this weekend.  We also saw some nice crappie and catfish.

We have re-filled our last cabin for Memorial Day Weekend.  A very nice couple dropped by Saturday to pick up some info and decided they wanted the available cabin.

Our family hopes that all our friends have a safe trip down for the Memorial Day Holiday and a great weekend!  A big thank you to all our military men and women for their service to our country.  Remember all our veterans on Memorial Day.  God bless you and your family.

Fishing is Great! Memorial Day Weekend!
Thursday, May 19th, 2011
It has been a wild and busy month.  We have seen a lot of 11-13 inch crappie brought up and one group had a bunch of 14-15" crappie.  They were very hush hush about where they found their fish.

Hard to believe Memorial Day Weekend is almost here.  We had a last minute cancellation (due to health) so at this moment we have one cabin available.  It is a single room cabin with 2 full size beds.  So if you haven't made plans, give us a call.

This has been a wild weather year.  Southern Missouri has been hammered with rain and floods while our lake is in good shape and at normal pool.  This has been a very cool spring for us.  Wonder what summer will be like!

We look forward to seeing everyone.

Russell, Carole & Bill
Wow! Wild April!
Tuesday, April 26th, 2011
My apologies for not updating our news.  Like everyone else we had a big storm roll through early April...it knocked out our internet.  So for almost 2 weeks we had no internet. Didn't realize how dependent we had become on technology!

Anyway...the fishing is great.  We have been lucky not to have all the rain and storms that have recently been pounding Missouri.  We have had our share but most of the rain has come at night so our guests have been able to fish during the day.

We have seen lots of large crappie brought in to the fish cleaning station.  And have several more new pics to post when we get time.

We are full house until May 6. (Have one cabin available for that weekend).  If you want to come down and have a great time fishing give us a call.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have felt the wrath of the April storms...

Russell, Carole & Bill
Spring has sprung! Well, almost....
Monday, March 21st, 2011
We have been so busy with the shows and getting everything ready that I haven't updated the report this year.  My apologies to all...

We had a great boat show season.  Met lots of new friends and saw so many of our "old" friends.  Everyone agrees it has been a long hard winter and spring cannot get here fast enough.  Well, it was 81 today in Warsaw so I would say spring is here!

We have most of the cabins open and ready to go.  By Thursday they will all be ready.    Russ is painting two bedrooms in the Liars Den.  The downstairs is done and he has to apply one more coat to the upstairs bedroom.  It will look great when he is done!

We have had some folks fishing.  They did quite well.  Got their limit of crappie both days.  Really nice crappie (mostly 10-12").  They were three happy guys.

I have some new pictures for our website.  Not sure when I will get a chance to post them but I hope we can get them posted before April 1.  No promises.....

If you haven't made your reservation, give us a call.  We look forward to seeing everyone again.

Wow What a Weekend!
Sunday, October 24th, 2010
Everyone had a great time this weekend.  The whites are running the shad and our guests have been catching the whites.  We saw the remains of a lot of fish this weekend (crappie, whites, walleye).  The weather was good despite the rainy forecast...we saw little to no rain.  Did have a bit of wind on Saturday.  Today was almost picture perfect.

We had a full house and from the fish stories we heard so did our guests.

We still have some availability for next weekend so give us a call and come enjoy the beautiful fall weather and the great fishing.

See you soon!
What a perfect Labor Day Weekend!
Thursday, September 9th, 2010
We cannot believe how beautiful the weather was for Labor Day Weekend.  Everyone was certainly enjoying their last big holiday weekend before cold weather arrives.  We had campfires at the fire rings and people cleaning fish at the fish cleaning station.  Kids were playing on the playground.  It was an awsome time at Reel & Trigger Resort.

September weekends are fast filling up.  If you want to enjoy this cool weather and catch a few fish now is the time to make your reservations.

Russ & I went fishing last night.  We caught lots of crappie.  Most were 9 inch but Russ got an 11 inch crappie and I had two 10 inch crappies.  The 9 inch crappie were fat and sassy.  Some hit like a freight train and others nibbled like a ghost.  We probably caught and released 50 crappie.  We also caught some black bass and catfish.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.  Don't forget Heritage Days is fast approaching.  We don't have many cabins left so call for reservations soon.

Carole, Russell & Bill
Labor Day Fun!
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
It is hard to believe this is the last day of August!  The fishing is definately improving.  The next thing we know fall will be here!

We are looking forward to Labor Day Weekend. We always enjoy seeing our friends and meeting new friends.  Not to mention the fact that my grandchildren and new great grandson will be here for the 3-day holiday!

There is nothing better than visiting with family and friends.

We pray everyone has a safe trip to their holiday destination this coming weekend.

September and October weekends are filling up rapidly so if you are planning on coming down, be sure to call as soon as you can for reservations.

See you soon,

Carole, Russell & Bill

Walleye - yummy!
Wednesday, August 18th, 2010
The fishing has been good since it cooled off.  Richard caught a 5 pound walleye while bass fishing yesterday!  He's been fishing for hybrids, stripers and crappie.

We have had a lot of folks here this week and they have all had a great time.  We have a couple spots left for the weekend so give us a call and come on down!

By the way, Heritage Days is coming soon!  We only have two cabins left for that weekend the Eagle's Nest and the Liars Den.  They won't last long, be sure you get your reservation made if you plan on attending Heritage Days October 16 & 17!

See you soon,  Russell, Carole & Bill
August is just a week away!
Sunday, July 25th, 2010
It is hard to believe that August is almost upon us.  We had a nice rain shower last night that cooled things down a little.  Let's hope it keeps the temps down thiw week.

Everyone had a great time this weekend. Bill & Russ dumped fish remains back into the lake so we know people were catching fish.

Don't let the warmer weather keep you off the lake!  Call now for reservations.

Hope to see you soon,

Russell, Carole & Bill
July Fun!
Friday, July 16th, 2010
The 4th was a big success!  We had a great fireworks show and good weather.

The lake is back to normal and everyone is having a great time swimming and fishing.  The catfish have been moving around good at night and several folks have been catching some nice cats.

The black bass fishing has been a little slow according to the bass clubs.

Crappie fish is good if you can find the right spot! Early morning and late evening seem to be the best time to fish.

Next weekend there is a rodeo in town!  We have a few cabins left for July 23-24 so give us a call.

See you soon!

July 4th Weekend is almost here!
Sunday, June 27th, 2010
It is hard to believe the year 2010 is almost half gone!  So far we have had a great year thanks to all of you!

The weather has been a little crazy with some really hot June days; but the fish don't seem to care.  They don't even mind that the lake is up 20 feet!  As a matter of fact they seem to like the flooded areas.

The crappie are still biting and the bass have been chasing the shad!  Everyone has told us we they are having lots of fun on the lake.

We are looking forward to the fireworks this coming weekend and hope everyone enjoys watching the fireworks.

We look forward to seeing all of you soon!

Memorial Day Thank You!
Monday, May 31st, 2010
The Reel & Trigger Family wants to say a big thank you to all who have served or are serving our country.  God bless you all!

We had a good Memorial Day Weekend with lots of happy times.  Our guests caught lots of fish including walleye, crappie, bass, and catfish even though the lake is still above normal pool.  The weather was great.

We look forward to next year's celebration.

See you soon,

Russell, Carole & Bill

Memorial Day is upon us!
Thursday, May 27th, 2010
It is hard to believe it has been a month since our last report.  The lake is up due to all the rain everyone has had the past two weeks.  The fishing has been a little harder but they are still biting.

We have folks catching crappie, bass, catfish and walleye.  As a matter of fact one group "The McCoys" caught so many fish their boss made reservations and came down to go fishing.  The McCoys had lots of crappie, catfish, and a really nice walleye (8 lbs I think).  Oh yes, the boss did okay but not as good as the McCoys!

We also had an 11 pound hybrid caught on a 6 lb ultra light by one of our guests on May 9th!  He said it took him 35 minutes to land his fish.  I think he was walking on clouds....

Everyone says they are having fun and the forecast for Memorial Day Weekend is great!  They are releasing water so hopefully the lake will go down some and I know the fishing is improving!

We hope to see you soon!

Russell, Carole & Bill

PS: We have a new addition to our family.  He was born May 19, 7 lbs 10 oz, 20 inches long.  Don't forget to congratulate Grandpa Russ, Great Great Uncle Bill and oh yes... Great Nana (me).  God bless everyone
Fishing is Great!
Sunday, April 25th, 2010
Spoonbill season is fast winding down.  Only 5 more days.  We have seen a few really nice ones this weekend.

The crappie are biting.  The cooler weather has slowed them down a little but our guests are still getting some nice crappies.  Many are getting their limit or close to the limit.  They are ranging in size from 9.5" to 14".

We saw some good catfish brought in today.  One was a 15 pound channel!  One of the local guides took some folks out and they did real well on white bass and crappie!

My granddaughter was here this weekend and she landed 11.5" and 10.5" crappies Saturday evening.  She was excited that her fish were bigger than Dads!  Of course, dad was really proud of her catch!

We hope to see you soon!

Spring has arrived!
Tuesday, April 6th, 2010
After what seemed to be a long cold winter spring has finally arrived.  The lake is warming up and the fish are staging!

We have had several guest snag some nice spoonbill.  Four weighed more than 60 pounds!

One guest told me today that he caught a couple 4 pound black bass today and lost a few good ones.  I know that the crappie are staging getting ready for the spawn.  We went out Saturday and checked the mouths of the coves on the Grand side of the lake.  Water temp was 57 and there were lots and lots of fish on the screen!

Looking forward to seeing all of you again soon.

Sunshine and falling leaves...it must be November!
Saturday, October 31st, 2009
It is hard to believe tomorrow is the first day of November.  Where has our year gone.  We had beautiful fall colors for about 2-3 days and then the winds came and the leaves started falling.

We have had several folks catching hybrid bass and a few are crappie fishing.  The catfish are still biting and now that the weather is stablizing for a week or so the crappie fishing should pick up.

We are building some new picnic tables for next year (Acutally, Russ & Bill are building them).  They hope to have them done in a few days.  If the weather holds we might slip away for a day and go fishing ourselves.  We don't get much chance to go during April thru September so we always look forward to fall.

We got the leaf blower out and dusted it off in preparation of our annual leaf blowing party!  HA HA HA!  We love the trees and the shade they provide but the leaves are a real pain in the fall.

Give us a call if you need a cabin for a few days.  There is still good fishing and hunting season is upon us.  We saw a large flock of turkey near the resort; Bill and Russ are always seeing large bucks and plenty of doe when they go dump the fish remains.

If we don't see you before November 26 have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Catfish are biting!
Tuesday, October 6th, 2009
If you like catfish we have seen several really nice ones caught.  One of our folks caught a 15.5 pound cat on a 6 pound test line.  She was really excited.

Weather has cooled down but it hasn't been too bad.  We have filled the last spot for Heritage Days.  If you need a place to stay give us a call and we will try to help you find one.  We are always glad to help anyone that plans to visit the Warsaw area.

Hope to see you soon!  Your friends at Reel & Trigger

What an outstanding fall season!
Saturday, September 26th, 2009
September is just flying by.  Last weekend we had a wonderful bass club staying with us plus a few other wonderful regulars.  Everyone said they had a really great time.  We saw some nice fish remains in our buckets (crappie and catfish) and the bass club said they were releasing some nice bass.

This weekend we have another bass club and a wide variety of folks staying with us.  The fishing has been good. Even if you don't catch a lot of big fish a day spent on the lake fishing is always a good day! Folks are starting to set around the fire rings of an evening making smores and roasting hot dogs!

The weather has been absolutly perfect.  The high temp has been in upper 70's to low 80's and the evenings have cooled down in the mid 50's to mid 60's.  No need for air conditioning!

The weekends in October are fast filling up.  We have only one cabin left for Heritage Days (October 17-18) as of this posting.  So if you are planning on attending be sure to call soon!  The available cabin is our Liars Den Lodge (three bedrooms & a loft).

Soon we will have beautiful fall folage for all to enjoy.  The pelicans are starting to arrive on Truman.  It is quite a sight to see them come in during migration.

Don't forget we are open for deer season!

We look forward to seeing many of our friends during this fall season.

August has arrived!
Tuesday, August 4th, 2009
Wow we had such a wonderful July! We are hoping August will be kind and keep the temperatures low!!

One of our friends went fishing on August 1 and caught his limit of crappie in one hour!  He caught one 17" crappie and several 12 - 14" crappies!  They had so much fun they did it two days in a row!  Although he said it took them 2 hours the second day!

We have seen some nice bass and catfish brought in to our fish cleaning station. So I would say the fishing is good.

We still have some August openings so give us a call and enjoy the last few days of summer having a great time on Truman Lake!

See you soon,

Your friends at Reel & Trigger Resort

Hello Summer!
Monday, July 6th, 2009
It is hard to belive that the 4th of July has come and gone.  We had one of the best 4th of July's ever.  The temperature was wonderful!  The days were cool (between 75-84 for highs).  It was hard to believe it is July!  Everyone had a great time enjoying the fireworks, fishing, and relaxing.  We are looking forward to the rest of July and August.

The fishing has been good.  Several people got their limit of crappie almost daily.  Of course we had some folks that were not fishing....just enjoying time with family and friends.

We hope to see all our old friends and new friends during the rest of the summer months.

Have a great summer!

Summer has arrived
Friday, May 29th, 2009
I can't believe it is almost June!  We have been very busy the past two months.  Lots of great fishing despite the higher water.  Yesterday a group that is staying in our Liar's Den caught their limit of crappie!  They said it was a very good day.  Most of our guests are catching good crappie, bass, hybrids, and walleye.

THe lake level is dropping back down and this weekend looks to be prime fishing!

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  We hope to see you soon.

Spring is arriving!

Wow! It is hard to believe that spring is here!  I heard the crappie are biting!  We know someone that has got his limit the last three days.  So break out those poles and come on down!

We have completed the construction on our home.  The new office is almost ready!  We have purchased the new playground equipment and will be getting it ready over the next two weeks.

We are looking forward to seeing all of you again soon.  Have a great spring!

The Calm before the Storm!
Sunday, December 14th, 2008
This weekend was a special deer hunt in Truman State Park!  They are harvesting doe to control the deer population.  It is my understanding that the hunt is going well.  However the wind is blowing very hard.  The gusts are up to 45 mph!  The temp is in upper 50's which make the wind bearable!

Our new addition is coming along great.  It has now been insulated and the dry wall guys will be here Tuesday to do their part!  By Friday we should have the new additional completely insulated and sheet rocked!  That means we will have heat and can start painting ceilings and walls.  We hope to have everything painted by Christmas so the flooring can be in January!  Once the new addition is done the remodel will begin in the old part of the house.

The weather is suppose to change dramatically starting tomight.  It is suppose to get cold and snow/sleet are in the forecast!

We hope to see you all at the boat shows!  I will post a list of the shows we will be attending soon!

Merry Christmas everyone!
Changes
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008
Just wanted to let everyone know our office door will be removed and placed in the new addition on November 19.  Just knock on our door (door bell is not working) when you arrive and we will take you thru the house to the office.  Sorry for the mess and inconvenience.  We will try to make everything as smooth as possible for our guests.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Leaves are falling and things are changing!
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
The leaves are really starting to fall.  We have raked, blown and burned leaves twice and you can't even tell it!  It is way too windy today to even consider raking and burning.  I am sure we will be back at it again as soon as the wind calms down.

We have one guest that caught his limit of whites this morning!  He said he might try his luck with crappie later on today but for now he is just going to kick back and relax!  For the past three days the best color to use is white regardless of what your fishing for.  The bass and crappie have really been hitting the white jigs and lures.

We are keeping a few cabins open for the deer hunters and winter fishermen so give us a call if you need a place to stay.

Our new addition is taking shape.  It is framed, roofed and the siding is going on as we speak.  We are really excited about the prospect of having more space soon.  I am anxious to get every thing finished.  Our builder has cautioned me that what is being done now shows lots of progress but the rest of the job (plumbing, electrical, etc.) will take some time to complete.  Think he is afraid we will become to anxious!
Fall has arrived!
Monday, October 27th, 2008
The leaves are turning and the weather has been fabulous!  We have been staying very busy with our weekend guests and the new construction on our home.

Today the boom truck was here!  He lifted the trusses up to the second story while Mark & crew nailed them in place.  We hope to have a roof on and windows in before the week is out!

If you want to see some beautiful follage on the trees now is the time to make your reservations!

Deer season is arriving!  We look forward to seeing all our hunters again.

Since the weather is great we still have folks dropping hooks in the water to see if they can catch dinner!

We have had a great year so far thanks to all of you!  We look forward to seeing our fall guests.  See you soon!

Fall Has Arrived!
Thursday, September 18th, 2008
Wow!  Can you believe this beautiful weather.  During last weekend's downpour (Thanks to Ike) we had some very hardy fishermen that didn't let a little rain get them down.  They fished during the rain and caught their limit of white bass!  We had several groups here catching crappie, bass, walleye, and catfish.  Some did really well and others had to work a little harder.  When I asked them about the weather they said they didn't mind getting a little wet when the fishing was so good.

We have started getting ready to add on the new office, laundry room, garage and a couple of bedroom to our house.  We have a large green dumpster in front of the house now and Bill & Russ have been demolishing the inside of our garage.  So please excuse the mess around the office.

We will keep you posted on the fishing news and let you know how the construction project is coming along.  See you soon!

Labor Day Already!!!
Monday, August 25th, 2008
Wow! Can you believe it's almost Labor Day!  We have had a very mild August and it's hard to believe we are nearing the end of the month.

The fishing has been good and we have been really busy.

We had a family wedding last Friday here at the resort!  It was a beautiful day for a wedding on the bluff(slightly overcast, but no rain!).  We are very pleased to welcome the newest member of our family.  In case you are wondering Russell's son Josh (my grandson) was married 8/22/08 to his sweetheart Britney.  They make a great couple.

The lake is at normal pool.  Everyone has been enjoying the cooler August weather.  We have seen lots of old friends and made some new friends this month.

We are looking forward to September.  We will be starting the excavation work in late September for the addition onto our home.  The building is scheduled to begin October 1.  So please excuse the mess around the house during the construction.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Celebrating Independence
Friday, July 11th, 2008
It is hard to believe the 4th of July has come and gone.  Our guests enjoyed a cooler than normal 4th and a fantastic fireworks display!

The rain has stopped for now and the Corps is releasing around 100,000 cfs from the dam so our water level is dropping.  The shad are sure working the top of the water all over the lake so hybrid fishing should be at a premium!

We saw some nice crappie and catfish during the last couple of weeks.  One guest made the mistake of leaving his crappie in a cooler on ice outside his cabin over night and "Ricky Racoon" managed to get into his cooler and releive him of part of his catch! He had put another cooler on top but old Ricky still managed to get away with their 2 1/2 pound crappie!

We are looking forward to the lake getting back to normal soon!  By the way we added Direct TV to our cabins on June 19!  Everyone likes all the channels and seems pleased with the addition.

We will see you soon!

Goodbye May; Hello June!
Wednesday, June 4th, 2008
Wow, it is already June.  We have been busy visiting with everyone.  We have had several guests that did great crappie fishing and some that really had to work hard to get their fish.  However, most of the fish that were caught were really nice ones.

We had bass and crappie tournament fishermen staying with us in May.  I know we had one guest who had the second largest crappie at the end of the 1st day and I understand the bass guys were doing well also.  We didn't hear the final results but I know everyone that stayed here said they were enjoying themselves.

The weather has been up and down with lots of rain.  We had quite a storm last night but today the sun is shining and look like a great day.  We are looking forward to sunny days in June and seeing all of you!

April's News
Saturday, May 3rd, 2008
It is now May 1!  The crappie fishermen have been going out each day.  Many are bringing back their limits and some are not doing as well.  The wind and rain has had a big impact on fishing each day.  Some days are great and some are slow.  However most of the crappie we have seen were 10 - 13".  We also had one guest who caught a 6 pound walleye & 6 1/2 pound bass!  The lake is still up about 8 feet.

The crappie are moving closer to the banks.  Most crappie were being caught below dam.  However we are now hearing some reports of crappie being caught on the lake.

Catfishing has been good.  We have had some really nice blue cats brought in last week.  Bass fishing is slowly starting to pick up.

May should prove to be a great month for fishing!

See you soon

Fishing News
Friday, April 4th, 2008
The lake is up but the fishing is great!  We have a group of great guys here from Iowa and Nebraska.  They arrived yesterday, checked in and started fishing.  They came in last night (April 3)with 6 very nice spoonbill and three catfish!  They weighed the two largest (54 & 50 pounds) The other spoonbill weighed approximately 35, 45 and 49 pounds!  One of the guys had only been fishing 5 minutes when he got his spoonbill!

This weekend looks good, we anticipate our  guests will have a great time fishing!

Spring Has Arrived.....Spoonbill Season
Saturday, March 29th, 2008
March 15 marked the beginning of our spoonbill season on Truman Lake!  We are pleased to report that Travis snagged a 52 pound spoonbill on March 15.  A great way to start the season!  Don't forget spoonbill (paddlefish) season closes April 30.  The minimum body length of 34" (eye to fork of tail) is required with a daily limit of 2 paddlefish.

Water surface temp is 47 so the walleye are starting to move.  Walleye must be 15" long with a daily limit of 4.

The crappie fishing should be great this year since we had a record crappie hatching 4 years ago!  The crappie limit remains 15 per day with a minimum of 9".  Jerry caught a 17" crappie this week and some 12 & 15" crappie!

See you soon!

The weather is warming up and the fish are biting.  They have been catching crappie and walleye!  We purchased some new bait at the boat shows we attended.  We will let you know how it works!
